Cricket without passion
Cricket is one of the famous games of the world. From Australia to England, people like and play cricket. However, in Asia, love for cricket is phenomenal. Specially, in India, people like cricket more than any other game and their enthusiasm to see cricket enables Board of control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to collect huge revenue.
From more than a decade, BCCI has been conducting event of Indian Premier league (IPL) every year. The event gives boom to Indian economy and provides chance for local young players to come and show their talent. Different franchises offer handsome amounts to world superstars of the game to play for them. Currently, many other countries are also organizing similar events on regular basis. PSL, Big Bash and Sirilankan Primier League are the best examples.
No doubt, franchise cricket has given new charm to the game. It is one of the sources of entertainment in the world for cricket loving spectators. However, most of the people are unaware of the dark side of league cricket. Once upon a time, players dreamed to play for their national side. They felt proud in wearing national kits. At that time, cricket was name of gentleman game and enthusiasm. Furthermore, in those days, cricketers played the game with passion without any lust for money.
Unfortunately, franchise cricket has ended that golden era of cricket history. Now, most of the cricketers play cricket just for the sake of money. To fulfill their quest for wealth, players even try to earn money through illegal means in league cricket, specifically. Spot fixing is one of the major types of these corrupt practices in cricket.
Moreover, in many cases, players even give preference to play league cricket rather than playing for their national sides. For instance, many key players of South African Cricket Team will not represent their national side in the T20 series against Pakistan cricket team due to their business in IPL which is a bizarre reason of unavailability for national team. This scenario will definitely heart millions of cricket lovers who want to see good comparative cricket between these two teams. It means that franchise cricket is like slow poisoning for actual spirit of the game and Dale Steyn, legendary fast bowler, has rightly pointed out the fact.
In simple words, International Cricket Council and local cricket boards will have to devise serious plan to overcome bad impacts of league cricket. They will have to work to save charm of international cricket. For that purpose, ICC can limit participation of players upto only two leagues in an year. In this way, both franchise and international cricket can run side by side without interfering in domains of each other. Otherwise, in coming years, most of the international cricket teams will ruined like cricket team of West Indies.
